I think you are in a unique position. As fourth-year acting students, you were able to choose the literary piece yourselves, and on top of that you were able to choose and invite a director.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Adrianna Malecka:<\/strong> Magda can begin to answer this question.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magdalena Sildatk:<\/strong> Yes, we were in the comfortable position of being the ones to invite Veronika Szczawinska to work with us. It was something very interesting and new for us that the decision lay with us. At the first meeting, Weronika told us openly: \"Girls, the decision is yours, it is you who are inviting me here\". It was the first time we actually felt that we had a say, that we had some power. It was incredibly opening and liberating for us.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> I suggested that Magda should start responding, because she was the first one to come up with the initiative from our group to do a women's performance. At the beginning it was supposed to be our project, and it has grown to the point where we have a co-production with TR Warsaw, we have Veronika as director and we have both the school and the grant money on our side, from the EU programme \"Change - Now!\". Everything that has happened around the show is amazing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>It is unusual that at the final stage of your education at AT you have the opportunity to go out into the big waters, the important theatre scene of Warsaw, with your own proposals.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> It's really great that we can go out to audiences outside the school with a play that is so important to us, and that we have the chance to show it at TR Warsaw. Especially because we are big fans of this theatre. For us, this is a huge opportunity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Yes, a tremendous opportunity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>With this performance, you are part of the #MeToo civic movement to draw attention to the problem of sexual harassment, and you are also part of the broader anti-violence activity. The subject matter undertaken is your voice in the discussion about violence in culture and also about violence in theatre schools.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Yes, actually, thanks to the fact that we are doing this at this very time, we got money under the \"Change - Now!\" grant, a programme in which the school participates. We hit at the perfect time to change what wasn't there before. This show was born out of a need because there was gender discrimination. There is something in theatres where a man in has more roles than a woman. That's why we are doing the show with a female cast. The amazing thing is that we discovered other needs and other things that this performance gave us. Not just the roles, but the awareness in action that you are talking about, in what is happening now. I think the school and the young people can see that there is a need for change.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> Like Ada says, this work, apart from giving us a lot as theatre work, and it also caused us to make very big internal changes within ourselves. Like consciously setting our boundaries, naming those boundaries. Because working with Veronika was very open, very much in harmony with each other and in mutual acceptance. These were new ways that we maybe knew a little bit, or were only now learning about. We're just learning that it's possible to put up these boundaries, that it's possible to work in a healthy way.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Make the performance safe for your mental and physical health.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Maga:<\/strong> Yes, exactly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>I think anti-violence therapy is needed throughout society, because I don't think there are any women who, going through life, haven't experienced some form of harassment and violence.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> Yes, I think this is true, and it's also why I'm glad that this show, despite being about violence, is guided so lightly and so around this theme. At times it can be uncomfortable for the viewer, if that's the case, it's intentional. I don't think it can somehow touch and make you feel strongly uncomfortable that there's too much of something, that this subject is too heavy. It's cool and consciously guided by the director that we also have the satisfaction of talking about important and difficult things, and the audience can have their own reflections, which is more important than their own discomfort.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> One might have the impression that if we are doing a play based on a Swedish reporter's publication about what happened in 2018 at the Swedish Academy and ten women play it, that it will be a play from the perspective of the victims, that we will all be victims. This is not the case at all. We are showing all facets of the story. As Veronika said at the first rehearsal: \"We're taking it all very much under a magnifying glass, even under a microscope, and taking it from all sides. That way you don't get the feeling that we women are only victims of violence.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>You are in your fourth year at university. Have you experienced fuchsia at school?<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Yes, I even experienced two fuchsias, because I was also in the acting department at the PWSFTviT in Lodz.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>I understand that in a situation of confirmed multiple cases of physical and psychological violence, fucktards are suspended and in that form will never return.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Our year was the first year that changed tradition at the Theatre Academy and that didn't make a fluke for new students. When we were in our third year it was our joint activity with the rector, Wojciech Malajkat. We decided that we would do something completely different. We kept some elements of the tradition, but not calling it a fuchsia, because that name has a very bad connotation. Alumni and people outside the school, they know what a fuchsia is and if we call it similarly, the old school will come back. By not calling it a fuchsia, we did a welcome for the first year. They put on a performance of their own, with us senior year students serving as their artistic support only. But they were the ones who sat with each other for two days and got to know each other. We gave them some space as part of the urban play. We did different stations around the city so they could get to know our school more. We found the things we liked about the fuchsia and turned it into a completely new form. I believe that a similar form will return after the pandemic. This year the pandemic has blocked action in that direction. I believe that what we proposed together with the rector was a good solution to welcome the first year within the walls of the school.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> We are also aware that we are at the beginning of this change, in fact in the middle of it. In my opinion, it was a very good decision to give up the fuchsia because it carries a lot of violence and there you could very easily overstep the boundaries. But, when we did some exercises and there was a performance made by first-year students, that was only the first step and I hope that the further on, when there is no longer a threat of coronavirus, the more years go by, it will develop into some new tradition that will give people a chance to get to know each other with students from other years and that they won't be harmed in any way.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>As the literary basis for the performance, you chose the reportage 'Klubben' ('The Club') by Matilda Voss Gustavsson about the sex scandal in the Nobel committee. What made you decide to choose this material for the play?<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> At the beginning of the work, Veronica offered us three literary texts plus one improvisational theme. Among these texts was 'The Club'. When we read all these texts, I think we unanimously decided that this was the one we were most interested in. Veronica, also favoured this choice. Because it is fresh, because it is timely, because it is actually a universal story. Plus it is something shocking. The book is shocking. We are preparing a performance based on this book, but we do not include everything that is in the reportage in our performance<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> Yes, it's interesting that we unanimously chose this text, although there were some fears among us that as girls we were choosing a text about violence and it might be too strong. But when we read the report, it really shook us up a lot. Each of us had a lot of thoughts about it. We knew that it was a bit about talking about something that is important and sows the seeds of change in people. Since it happened with us, there's a chance that it will be the same with the audience and that's why it's worth it. Although we actually had concerns that it was a risky situation. After working with Veronika, I think it was a very good decision.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Do all the girls of your year participate in the play?<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> Yes, all.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> There are ten of us, and we&#039;re all in the process. And this is common.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>This is your graduation year. What performances are you taking part in?<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> We still have the play 'STRAMER', directed by Marcin Hycnar. It is the graduation of our entire year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Twenty-four people are performing there.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> The premiere is on 10 July, but we have already had several previews.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> We are after pre-premiere screenings because this show has been almost nine months in the making, since August. We had a couple of approaches to the premiere during the pandemic. We managed to do a pre-premiere show during the third wave. In July we will show the show to the public.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> In addition, we are playing 'ANTIGONE. EDYPA' directed by Adam Nalepa. We played this weekend, the premiere was back in March, but the play is still in repertory. In this production we are performing as part of a group of twelve students. The second group has a performance of 'PUSTKA' based on the play DREAM WORKS by Ivan Vyrypayev, directed by Cezary Kosinski. The premiere has already taken place and now there will be screenings for the public.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>What are your plans after school?<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Play, play and play! We are actually in a difficult situation. Our year through pandemic is in a tough situation. We've only just started playing graduations now, and theatres are already finishing creating repertoire for next year. It's hard to get into any theatre company, but we believe that a few of us who want to be on staff will get that position. I personally would like to be in Warsaw I would like to have a full-time position here somewhere in the theatre, and at the same time fulfil myself in films and in front of the camera.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> You very often hear the question among people: would you like to act in theatre or film and series? I think it's nice not to exclude it, because each sphere can teach a lot. Like Ada, I would like to work in theatre because it's an incredible amount of experience and emotion and because of that it's very magical. So I would like to, but the truth is that we are in a very difficult situation. However, we are hopeful Now we are starting to play diplomas, there is to be a Theatre School Festival in October, maybe there will be a chance for theatre directors to watch us and invite someone of us to work with them. Like Ada, I would also very much like to fulfil myself in film and in cool series projects. I'm very open-minded, but above all I want a job.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> The situation in theatres at the moment is very difficult, directors are now afraid to hire people because the teams they already have have to feed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Especially if the audience is limited to 50%.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Fortunately, it will soon be 75%. I would also like to say that we have to thank our school for doing everything to make sure that we play these graduation plays as much as possible in these difficult times. That we can play both now, in July, in September, but also next year, which is very rare. Because of the pandemic everything has shifted, we will really have two seasons. From September onwards it will be our season, but also the graduation season of the year below. We know that not all schools could afford it. We are very happy and thank the Theatre Academy authorities for this opportunity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> Yes, but we would also like to thank you for the performance 'CLUB'. For the fact that, as women, we can do a performance here about violence and that the school supports us so much in this, while being in the difficult process of making changes. They give us a very big space to act.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>During the pandemic, theatres were experiencing a technological revolution related to the recording of performances for live streaming or online presentation. Whereas in the early days of the pandemic many online recordings were made available as working, single-camera recordings with poor sound, many recordings are now beginning to resemble professional television theatre.<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Ada:<\/strong> Now the graduation performances are recorded professionally, on several cameras. I think in the case of our school, this already started in the previous season, during the pandemic. The Festival of Theatre Schools was already online. Since then, our performances have been recorded very professionally and this can be a very big opportunity for us. It will be possible to present such recordings.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>It would be good if these recordings were also included in the archives of the NINATEKA or the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE POLISH THEATRE..<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Magda:<\/strong> This can be more of a problem because of copyright and the extra costs involved. But a year ago, the Television Theatre recorded one of the graduation performances of musical theatre acting students. It was 'PRZYBYSZ', directed by Wojciech Ko\u015bcielniak, and it is available on VOD TVP. Who knows, maybe one of our diplomas will be recorded by TV.
